64Digits.com hosted a competition that have about 3 weeks to make a halloween themed game. After 53 entrants but only 17 submitted, the results were rather good. Some games really turned out, while others were either funny, or not-so-funny...

Here is a review on each game based on gameplay and presentation! big_smile

Basic top-down where enemies come at you and you shoot at them. But where are these bullets coming from? Also it seemed like the enemies became invulrnerable after playing again the second time? Something was weird there.

Pretty cool. Graphics were really neat and could go great with many games. The reloading was a really nice idea, but the gameplay of the game was only decent in my opinion hmm I would have prefered to be slowed down when shooting instead of stopped. So it was kinda hard or irritating to play, the scare tactics were pretty good, and the graphics were awesome (and given more time probably a nicer walking animation of the character). You also have to go back to the safehouse when you die, which sucks when you were all the way in the place. Still good, but a little unforgiving.

Awesome game. Halloween theme, fun to play, music is nice, and art work is awesome. I would love to see another game or an extension of it really. For the competition though I think it fits perfectly.

For being a simple platformer its actually a nice game. Its not that 'corny' and has some nice twists built in to it to make it interesting. The lighting effect works well for this game, and the graphics have a nice artistic style to it; Even though they are simple, they go together well with the game. I wanted to play more but I ran out of time. Worth playing. nice work.

Not bad! It was fun and easy to check the rooms and stuff for things to help you along. Music was ok, graphics were ok, gameplay was pretty good and the premise was alright. Good start for a game.

Kinda confused on this one. It is a maze with a dark lighting which makes it easy to fail on, but I got lucky I guess. There was barely any puzzle difficulty. Once I got to the light room, i just went straight down but i could never live, so it became seemingly pointless hmm The walls look nice, but its a thrown together game.

Alright game. I really liked the 3D aspect, but the movement was a little slow and not mouse controlled. The light idea was awesome, but I think it was a little bit too dark at some parts because I started running into walls hmm I also was confused about the 'levels' as the keys only work for that level. The decorations were really cool, and the random bats were pretty cool also. Water was a nice addition. I quit after a couple levels so I didn't know how far I went into the game. Nice decorations and aspects to the 3D, but I thought it was a little dark and sometimes confusing, personally.

Its decent. You get some nice weapons and it has the black foreground style to it. Enemies pop out when you dont expect them to. Interesting additions and unqiueness in the game. Gets a little boring a little soon, and it was kinda hard to use the axe quickly. Decent style, but gameplay and maybe some media needs some more work to it.

Actually really fun. Hard on a laptop but i wanted to play so good work. It was also funny because of the random colored lights and dance music and woooah woooah. For a short game nice, just not as nice on the graphics. haha

Uhhhh. No intstructions anywhere to be seen. Not in-game or in the file... The running and walking are good. The sounds were good, the graphics were okay for the game. But since there was no instruction or obvious objective I didnt understand this as a game... After looking at people's responses I learned there was a house, so I found 2 buildings but couldnt get in. Someone said that they were looking around the house, which is a shame, because you need to make the controls or objectives MORE OBVIOUS in a game. I dont want to sit around guessing on how to do something so simple.

Hmmmm. Well the game consisted of a dead end, and a piano with a hole and a few keys with numbers on them. At that point I had no idea what to do, which is a very bad thing for a game, especially in the first 10 seconds. ...At least you could look around with the mouse.

The 3D backgrounds were really interesting! I liked that part. I also liked the effects like particles and body parts that fall on the ground. On novice the game was even hard because you have such a big character that its hard to avoid a lot of the bullets. And sometimes you just dont care to lose lives. Also, the bosses were like WTF how to avoid anything haha. The boss that made the most sense and was a good challenge was the first statuesque. Overall it is a bit of bullet hell which i dont like, and for the halloween theme its not a perfect fit into it. But still a little entertaining.

The only one to use the logo! Interesting idea, but for me to have to listen to the story, I think it dragged a little. Sprites were very nice and atmosphere fit well. It would be cool to have more gameplay in the portal. Aside from my limited interest in the slow dialog the fullscreen cut off some of the text. I would look into that wink

These reviews are my take on it but I do try to base it loosely off of how fun the game is, its presentation (graphics and style), and its playability (gameplay). Have fun playing! lol
